Attentiveness Introduction
How do you feel when you are trying to explain something to someone, and he or she pays little or no attention to you? Whether it is a student, spouse, child, boss, employee, or friend, it can be extremely frustrating. Whether it is life-or-death information or simple instructions for a homework assignment, whether you are talking to someone with great authority or no authority—to be ignored in any degree hurts!

We all have value and should thus respect each other, remembering that there is a time for talking and a time for listening. How simple it would be if we could solve our problems by changing others. “If only my parents were more attentive…” The truth is, however, that focusing on others’ lack of attentiveness is simply not the answer. It is only as we recognize the importance of building character—like attentiveness—and determine to strengthen our own that we can then encourage others.
