Appearance vs. Reality
Optical illusions often incorporate distractions for the eye that trick the brain.

1. Which circle appears to be larger?
2. Which line looks longer?
3. Which inner angle appears narrower?
4. Which inner circle looks smaller?

In each of the optical illusions, the circles, angles, and lines compared are actually equal in size. The distracting marks in each figure can confuse our perception and make things appear to be different than they are. The best way to view them accurately is to cover the distracting lines.

In the same way that distracting lines can distort what we see, distracting sights and sounds can affect our ability to focus and accurately understand what someone is saying. To ensure the accuracy of your listening, avoid distractions and involve both eyes and ears in focused attentiveness.
